    Laura Beveridge KPA-CTP, BSc, MSc.

    Hi! I’m Laura, the owner of Birchview Dogs Boarding & Training. Whether you’re looking for a place to board your dog or some training for a better-behaved canine companion – I can help.

    I’ve been working with all kinds of canines for the past 7 years and I am a certified dog trainer. With qualifications in animal science, I’ve been around animals my whole life.

    Twenty years ago I immigrated to Canada from Scotland with my dog, Bruno. When I made trips back home, I needed to board my beloved dog. Knowing that Bruno was being cared for while I was away was so important to me and I realized then, that this was something I would love to do for others. The seed for Birchview Dogs was planted!

    MY QUALIFICATIONS

    I am a certified dog trainer, recognized as a Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner (KPA-CTP). The Karen Pryor Academy is widely acknowledged as one of the best and most rigorous training programs available to professional dog trainers. This intensive program sets its graduates apart with certification in an otherwise unregulated industry.

    MY CERTIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

    BSc. (Hons) Agriculture. MSc. Animal Science & Behaviour.

    Certified Professional Dog Trainer (KPA-CTP). 

    Pet-First Aid Certified. Walks N Wags. 

    Knowing Dogs 101 (Dog Language) & 201 (Group Play) The Dog Gurus, USA.

    Infectious Disease Management Program certificate. Heroes for Healthy Pets (2019).

    METHOD

    I’m committed to providing you with positive and effective training for your dog by using force-free, science-based training methods, otherwise known as “clicker training”. This type of training focuses on setting your dog up for success and is a fun and enjoyable way for you and your dog to build a lifelong bond together.

    What is Clicker Training + How Does it Work?

    Clicker is training is positive reinforcement based training using a marker to mark the exact moment that we like. The process goes:

    See the behaviour
    Mark the behaviour
    Reinforce the behaviour

    Clicker training is based on operant conditioning – meaning behaviours that are reinforced will be repeated.

    Perfect place for our dog! What a find! We were referred to Birchview by close friends. We have a young puppy so naturally we were apprehensive about overnight boarding and finding the perfect place for our dog. Wow, were we impressed. From the outdoor play area, to the sleeping quarters, to the new indoor play area…I wouldn’t mind staying there a night or two myself! The sealer for is our dog’s reaction when he arrives at Birchview. He immediately feels comfortable and at home! Highly recommended.

    Definitely our “go to” place! So glad we found this kennel for our dog. They took great care of him and we can tell he had a good time so we will be scheduling regular stays through the summer. He went on a nature walk, was given puzzles to solve, played nose games and was fascinated by the sheep. This is definitely our ‘go to’ place for boarding Cooper, our 16 month old blue merle sheltie.
